Thoughts on moving

Moving again feels weird. A little over a year ago, we were packing up to move to Japan, and only bringing 100 lbs worth of stuff in two suitcases. Now, we can bring anything we want, and we've got boxes and boxes all ready to go. This move feels a bit sadder for me... When we moved to Japan, it was just like a really long vacation, but this time, it feels real. I don't think we'll ever move back to our hometown, where all our close friends and family are. The past few months we've spent here after we got back from Japan have been so nice and comfortable and familiar and convenient...and the more I think about that, the harder it is to leave. It would just be so easy to stay here.

But Matt and I both know that what we need is not here. In terms of our careers, and the kind of lives we want to live, we just have to go. And that's a strange feeling...

That's such a massive change, but I think it's so good that you guys are pursuing the lives and jobs that you want and not just staying with what you know. You guys are being so wise and brave! I hope moving goes well and it gets a little easier.

P.S. I love that shirt, as well, and the lighting in this photo is stunning :)

  3. I am both sorry for your grieving and simultaneously excited for your new adventure at the same time Kristine.  I moved a lot as a kid--from house to house and town to town.  But my family was always in CO.  I can't imagine how hard it would be to move away from them.  But I did find that every time I moved it came with new adventures and new friends.  I wish you and Matt well on your journey.  Plus, you can always come to visit.  ;-)

  4. There are so many emotions and feelings that revolve around moving in the first place - and with the journey you've been on, I know it can definitely feel like a non-stop whirlwind. BUT - the greatest thing is that you and Matt are living the life that many wish for :) Your experiences and memories are priceless and are so widespread! You've got so many stories to share and that's amazing :) I'm so excited for you and can't wait for your LA adventures! :)

  5. This post really hits home - I'm in college and I just got back from a trip home, and everytime, it's just harder and harder to leave even though I don't think I can live the life I want there. Best of luck with your move :)

  7. It's going to be such a grand adventure. I don't know anyone who has regretted taking those big leaps when they are young and they can! Go you!

  8. The fact that you know what you need is not there makes it completely doable, though. And you have the support of your friends and family as well as an incredible future ahead of you. I doubt it is easy, but I know there are amazing things just waiting for you.

  10. I have no experience with moving myself but I think it is wise that you truly know that you need to go elsewhere. You can always stay in touch with friends by visiting them, skyping, inviting them etc.. I hope the move will go smooth and that you will be happy in your new place!

  11. Moving can be SO hard. Especially if there's a time zone change. Thankfully you have this blog where your family can stay updated! I hope the move goes smoothly and you are able to enjoy the time you have left here without the cloud of moving hanging overhead.

  12. My hubby and I are going through similar stage in life...we need to get "out" of where we are right now, but feel so sad leaving behind both of our families and all of our favourite places.  Plus it can just be chaos (and feel kinda lonely) starting off in a totally new locale.  But in the end this will be so GOOD and strengthening and uniting for you both!  There are so many great adventures and exciting moments ahead.  Have FUN!!!

  13. awwww moving away from home is hard. it was so hard in miami at first, knowing nobody and feeling sort of alone. but it is the best feeling becoming slowly adjusted to a new and exciting place! youre going to start to know people in the local restaurants and coffee shops and meets lots of friends in school and it will feel like a fresh start!

  16. yes we experienced a very similar turmoil with moving, and now visiting home it can be so hard to let it go seeing all my family and friends, but i know i have things i need to accomplish elsewhere and nothing is permanent, things are always changing and there are always new experiences to be had :)
