Today, I had to teach my older class (16-18 year olds) how to use "vague" conversational phrases such as: "and things like that", "and stuff", and "you know". I felt like I was teaching them a really awful shortcut and that their English was reverting to a lower level, and stuff. You know? So to ease my guilt, I went home and had Matt make me a grilled cheese. And then I listened to Beyonce... and things like that. I feel better now... and stuff.
This outfit... there is a lot happening here. As you could probably tell. I'm wearing my Robin Hood tights again. And I tied that purple scarf around my hair so that it would tie in with the purple in my skirt. See, there is a method to this madness, I tell you!

Grilled cheese and beyonce? That sounds like the perfect cure to a bad day! Beautiful outfit! I'm green with envy over your tights...

I was just thinking about you and hoping you are doing well and enduring the rain and home sickness! I hope you are well lady. You look lovely, as usual. xoxo
ReplyDeleteI love your Robin Hood tights, ya know? ;-) And your hair scarf and that great skirt. And stuff.
ReplyDeleteThat last picture is gorgeous. Well, they're all gorgeous. But the last one is just ultra gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteAnd stuff.
I love all the colors in your outfits that you incorporate together. You inspire me to wear colorful tights more often!
ReplyDeleteLove those tights! And all of those other things ;)
ReplyDeleteI teach ESL to adults, too. I think that topic is a good one to cover because it's how we informally speak so much of the time! You're teaching them to be able to function better socially!
your entire outfit is brilliant girl, as always! and yes, grilled cheese cures everything. ha

I was always a bit hesitant, when I started teaching English, to teach the slang part or English, as if it's not proper English so maybe I shouldn't teach it. But really, this just as much part of the language as the rest. And if you want your students to truly master the language, they have to know both the formal and informal levels of English. Then they need to learn which is more appropriate for what situations. So really, even if it sounds like lazy English or shortcuts, it's part of the language and they need to know it just as much. When they here these expressions, they need to fully understand them and not be set apart. I hope it helps a little? Hehe, between teachers, we have to collaborate ;)
ReplyDeleteHa ha I love the title of this post! The tights and florals make you look like a lovely Flower Fairy (if you've seen those books? It was about 30 years ago and maybe just published in the UK) and when I was little I thought they were beautiful, you know? So you remind me of a beautiful Flower Fairy and stuff.
ReplyDeleteHave you heard the very British, or rather, London expression "innit"? It's slang for "isn't it", but used at the end of every sentence even where "isn't it" doesn't make sense. For example: I now need to have a grilled cheese - cheese on toast as we say - you've made me hungry innit!

You got that skirt from DownEast!? It's sooooooo cute! I love all the mix of colors. How fun!
ReplyDeleteYou are just adorable. That head scarf is basically perfect on you. Love the colors here.
ReplyDeleteI love this look! Yes there is a lot going on but it all works. The purple headscarf is so right and those tights are the perfect shade of green. I wish I was having grilled cheese and cranking Beyonce tunes as well. Hope you have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThe colors are so very rich and lovely!! Those tights are a gorgeous, gorgeous green. I'm inspired to put mustard, purple and green together this coming week. One of my favorites of yours of late. P.S. You wear a head scarf better than anyone I've seen. You know how to work it!
ReplyDeleteThat skirt is magical. The colors are amazing. The green tights look really fun with the skirt as well.
ReplyDeleteLooking gorge as usual! I love those tights. If you ever decide to visit England i'll have to take you to Sherwood Forest.

I LOVE that I reminded you of a Flower Fairy!! One of the best compliments, ever ^_^
ReplyDeleteAnd haha, I'd never heard it before, but now I love "innit"! That's a good phrase to attach to an end of a sentence... When I lived in Knoxville, Tennessee the southern folk used to say "idn't it" instead of "isn't it". It made me giggle.
LOVE everything happening in your outfit :) And kudos for listening to Beyonce.. her album is amazing x
ReplyDeleteYou had me at grilled cheese and Robin Hood tights. I want a day that involves those two things.
ReplyDeleteOne phrase that bothers me is "like". It just, like, makes you seem super dumb, like, you know? My friends and I used to challenge each other to not say "like" during lunch. It usually resulted in lots of giggles and purposely saying "like" every few words.
I just wanted to tell you that you seriously inspire me. I've always wanted to mix patterns without looking like I got dressed in the dark. I have drawn so much inspiration from your outfits in the past year I've been reading your blog and mix patterns in my outfits much more frequently now. Anyway just thanks for the inspiration! P.S. I love grilled cheese!
ReplyDeleteWow, you make those tights so versatile...I love both the previous look and this one and yet they are so different and unique. Grilled cheese is really such a woe eraser.mmm. :) -Lo
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I know EXACTLY what you mean! When I was in Lithuania this summer, I was trying to pick up on those kind of phrases and I felt so silly adding them into my sentences. Because, obviously, they weren't grammatically needed. :p Without them, though, I sounded like such a foreigner! lol

Becca, thanks so much!! Your comment made me smile so much. I'm so glad you like my blog ^_^
ReplyDeleteStumbled upon your blog today & when I saw this outfit I had to become a follower. Love the mix of colors.
