Scarf: Handmade by my aunt for Matt; Cardy: Last Chance; Belt: Urban; Skirt: Draw a Crowd Skirt c/o Modcloth; Tights: F21?; Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell via Last Chance
I was quite pleased with this outfit. I haven't been wearing much color lately, so this was a real pick-me-up! I find that I feel best when wearing lots of color. I got this amazing skirt from Modcloth- I was instantly drawn to the colors and the vibrant pattern. I chose to accessorize with colors found in the pattern with my (Matt's) teal scarf and these red tights. I think this might be one of my favorites of late!
The other day, a family from our ward invited us to eat dinner at their house. I was so thrilled to eat a real, authentic Japanese family dinner! I basically squealed with delight when I saw that the dining setup consisted of square pillows and long, low tables about a foot off the floor. And get this. We ate rice from their rice field in front of their house! And everything was SO yummy. Sigh. Japanese food is my absolute favorite. Good thing I live in Japan... and stuff.
I also saw something called a kotatsu while I was there - a small, low table covered by a blanket that has a heater underneath! So in the cold winter months, you can just sit with your legs under it and warm up! Man, Japan's got everything figured out.
Today, I think I'll attempt to meet Matt downtown and attend the hanami, or flower viewing of the cherry blossoms. The only problem is, I have the challenge of buying myself a ticket and getting on the correct train, all by myself. Without being able to read Japanese. Wahhh! Here's to hoping I don't get lost...

ReplyDeleteYour expression in the first photo is so adorable. I love reading of your new adventures -- how cool about the winter-ready tables. Good luck on getting downtown -- sure it will be fun :)
ReplyDeleteWow! Such a cute skirt & outfit! You're so brave to hit the streets of a foreign country. I would love to do that. & I would love to eat rice that was grown in someone's front yard too -- so stinkin' cool.

I love this look, Kristine! I tend to do the same thing when working with patterns; pick out colors from the pattern to accentuate with. I'm so glad you're starting to get comfortable in Japan and I really hope you figure out how to get that ticket. I'm sure you'll let us all know about your adventure tomorrow. :)

i wander, i wonder
HAha, I am still blown away by your sense of adventure! That would totally freak me out! And it's totally silly, but it seriously made me happy to see you in color today!
ReplyDeletei love the color in these photos, your outfit, the location... but most of all, i love that top photo of you. so adorable.
ReplyDeleteHave fun at your first hanami, we are going to try and go tonight too! You will get there, ask for help if you need to. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this outfit, I have a skirt almost just like that. I have been trying to figure out how to wear it besides with just a t-shirt, so thanks for the inspiration!

Aww good luck! I'm sure you'll get the hang of the whole public transportation thing son. Also, love your tights!
ReplyDeleteI hope you made it to see the flowers! Sounds amazing. This outfit is so cute! Glad to see you in such bright colors again!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this skirt.
ReplyDeleteI think this is one of my favorite outfits too! The setting is just lovely too, looks like it's out of a dream :) Good luck getting to the hubby!
ReplyDeleteI adore the vibrant color thing you've got going on. Too bad I don't have stylish man to steal things from! I love taking color inspiration from within a pattern. On another note, kotatsu are THE BEST THING EVER. I used to visit my Japanese friend's house to "study" but it was really just for the kotatsu. I'm sneaky, I know.
ReplyDeleteOne last thing:
がんばってね。= ganbatte ne = Good luck!
Oh, you look so cute! You should go leave a good review on modcloth for it! It's averaging at 2 stars right now. >.< And a kotatsu sounds lovely. Good luck with your adventure!
ReplyDeleteThis post makes me so happy! You look like a pretty little blossom my friend! Ahhh such beautiful photos :) that is so cool you had rice from their rice field!

I have a garden my my backyard filled with veggies but for some reason eating your own rice seems soooo much cooler.
ReplyDeleteYour outfit is so bright, happy and lovely. It's so difficult to find skirts with cute patterns that are a decent length, for some reason, so you are so so lucky. So perfect. You make me want to go wear bright colors... which I normally don't :)
ReplyDeleteTypical beginning to my comments on you blog: You're so cute!
ReplyDeleteAlso, wanted to share the blog that my friend who's living in China right now is keeping while she's there, in case you have any interest! :) http://karlamickeydee.wordpress.com/

ReplyDeleteNew to your blog-and finding it very entertaining! It can be so much (confusing) fun moving to a different continent *I would know*!!
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is beautiful indeed. I wouldn't have thought that red tights would be able to go with a floral pattern like that. so nice. Kotatsu look so comfortable. I always wanted one of those (they are allllll throughout the anime I've seen over the past couple decades I've watched it). Have fun at the hanami!
ReplyDeleteAdorable skirt! I'm so glad you love Japan. That dinner sounds yummy and so fun!
ReplyDeleteHope you had/are having fun at the hanami!
