It's moving week! While I'm preparing to move across the world, I've asked a few lovely bloggers to guest post. Meet Ashley of i believe in unicorns! I had the pleasure of meeting her this weekend and she is an absolute doll. Please leave her lots of wonderful comments and visit her blog if you please!

Hello wonderful readers of Kristine of Polly! I'm really excited to be here today.
My name's Ashley from i believe in unicorns, and I like to tell stories.

Once upon a time, I was shopping at one of my favorite little thrift stores, rummaging through the vintage section when I saw this fantastic green and blue floral material. I darted fast, in fear that someone else in the shop might be eying the gem.
When my greedy hands got to the thrifted treasure, they were surprised to find it was an oversized, dreadful looking MuuMuu.
Nonetheless, the floriated material had so much potential that my hands convinced my brain to put the grandma MuuMuu it in my cart.
It sat in my 'projects bin' for months.
Occasionally, I would pass by and its tiny Muumuu arm would reach out to me, begging for some wear, but I just turned my head in disgrace.
After all, I had textbooks to read and dinners to cook--I was too busy for such creative projects.
Finally, I came to Arizona for a belated Spring Break. It was here that I got out the scissors and snipped and sewed until I had myself a bran new skirt!
Since I was living out of a suitcase for the week, I didn’t have the top I was planning on pairing with this new creation, so I channeled my inner Kristine and started mixing patterns.
My mother was quite distressed when she saw my outfit, but I assured her all would be well in the world, even if I didn't "match."
I then headed to Anthropolgie with my sisters, where within 10 minutes and I had already received 6+ compliments on my outfit--how shocked my mother would be when I told her!
I would like to thank Kristine for awakening the pattern mixer from within. It's a part of me that has laid dormant of sometime, but it's glad to be back--and just in time for Spring!
The end.

The muumuu turned out to be a beautiful skirt! And I think we can all agree that Kristine is only THE BEST inspiration for pattern mixing. :)

beautiful! ashley has such dreamy hair.
ReplyDeleteLove the mixing of patterns here. This just goes to show moms don't know everything (although they do know *almost* everything..).
ReplyDeleteTeehee, I actually didn't think much about my blog name when I started this blog back in 2007, because back then I didn't actually show it to people. Polly is a nickname of mine because I'm really small, like Polly Pocket!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful guest post by Ashley...and I was happy that her site lead me to your lovely site! I hope you are having a Marvelous Monday!
ReplyDeleteLiesl :)
